Mattie McGleenan has stepped down as Cavan manager.

Mattie McGleenan has stepped down as manager of Cavan following two years in charge.

McGleenan's team secured promotion from Division Two of the Allianz Football League this spring before losing to Donegal in the Ulster Championship.

In the All Ireland Qualifiers Cavan defeated Wicklow and Down, but suffered a Round Three loss to Tyrone.

Cavan GAA released a statement on Wednesday evening confirming the decision. "Cavan GAA would like to put on record their appreciation and gratitude for the huge commitment and effort Mattie and his management have given to Cavan football," the statement said.

"Mattie has an infectious positivity and was always a pleasure to work with. We wish Mattie and his family every success in the future."
