A youthful Galway outfit were far too strong for DIT securing a comfortable win in Ballinasloe.
With Thomas Monaghan, Brian Molloy, and Davy Glennon effective in attack Galway dominated throughout.
Micheal Donoghue’s charges led by 0-18 to 0-8 at the break as Monaghan, Molloy, and Glennon combined to score 11 points between them.
Ahead by 0-10 to 0-6 after 23 minutes Galway then struck eight points on the spin courtesy of Glennon, Jason Flynn (4), Monaghan (2), and Jack Grealish.
It was a similarly story after the restart with promising Galway midfielder Dan Nevin drilling two splendid points in the third quarter.
Cian O'Donoghue registered six points for DIT, who conceded a fortuitous goal in the 63rd minute when a long range Joseph Cooney effort crept over the line.

Kevin Ryan's Offaly shaded a lively contest against Meath as two Sean Cleary (2) and Oisin Kelly netted goals for the Faithful County.
A highly rated IT Carlow side eked out a fine victory over Kildare at Newbridge.
Leading by 0-10 to 0-7 at the break IT Carlow pounced to score four goals in the second period.
