Moments of the Year 2018
By Eoghan Tuohey
This Friday, November 2nd, 30 of the best inter-county players from the 2018 season will be presented with one of the most sought-after accolades in their field – a PwC GAA/GPA All-Stars Award. This year, however, there is an extra award up for grabs – and its recipient is directly influenced by your vote!
The greatest moment of the 2018 championship will be decided by public vote, and presented on the night of the PwC All-Stars Awards. There are 12 nominated moments to choose from, with videos available of all on the GAA's official Twitter and Facebook accounts. Make sure to place your vote below before the window closes at midnight on Thursday, November 1st.
The 12 nominated moments or events were carefully selected on the basis of being the most memorable, historic and powerful across the season. Remarkable championship victories against the odds for the Carlow and Waterford footballers are included, as are moments of individual genius, such as Conor McManus’ point against Tyrone, Nicky Quaid’s block against Cork, or David Clifford’s goal against Monaghan.
Momentous events that shaped the 2018 GAA year are also available for selection, namely, the ending of the 45-year Limerick drought, and the completion of the Dublin four-in-a-row quest. Exceptional passages of play, which highlight the excitement, skill and unpredictability of our games also make the list, such as the Clare counter-attack goal against Tipperary in the Munster Championship.
Finally, awesome feats of scoring prowess are included on the shortlist. Joe Canning’s sideline cut against Clare, Niall Sludden’s goal against Monaghan, Peter Duggan’s point and Shane O’Donnell’s goal against Galway are all remembered fondly, and more than worthy of their place among the defining events of the year gone by.
Refresh your memory of the 12 highlighted moments by watching online, then make sure and make your voice heard and vote before midnight on Thursday!
