GAA Gambling Awareness Campaign

GAA Gambling Awareness Campaign

Problem gambling is becoming a growing concern in modern Ireland. As part of the GAA’s on-going work in the area of health and wellbeing, the Association has produced a booklet of basic guidelines as an educational resource for our players, members, and clubs.

Problem Gambling can be defined as: “difficulties in limiting money or time spent on gambling which leads to adverse consequences for the gambler, others, and for the community".

GAA Gambling Awareness Training

We have developed a training workshop which has been available to clubs since October 2019.

The workshop has been designed in a GAA context so that it can be delivered to any group within the club setting, including players aged U16 upwards, mentors, officers, members and parents. It is designed to raise awareness of some of the concerns linked to harmful gambling but delivery of the presentation does not require any expertise in the subject. We recommended that all squads from U16 upwards are exposed to the presentation before the start of each season to ensure they are well informed particularly regarding the official GAA rules concerning players and betting.
