Allianz Football League Division 4

WICKLOW 3-17 WATERFORD 1-19

A dominant first-half performance by Wicklow laid the platform for this Allianz Football League Division 4 victory over Waterford.

The Garden County led by 12 points at the break and that was a sufficient buffer to resist a Waterford revival that saw them win the second half by eight points.

Leading 0-10 to 0-4 as half-time approached, Wicklow then made their dominance count all the more on the scoreboard as they struck two goals in quick succession.

First Eoin Darcy finished low to the net after being put through by Patrick O’Kane and then a minute later Wicklow turned over the ball and Andy Maher finished to the net emphatically.

When Kevin Quinn struck for a third Wicklow goal on 31 minutes to put his team 14 points up it looked like they were going to coast to a very comfortable victory.

Credit to Waterford though, they showed a lot of heart to fight all the way to the finish.

With the wind at their backs they kicked four two-pointers in the second-half to eat considerably into the deficit.

Some gloss was added to the scoreboard in injury-time when Dyaln Guiry struck a goal and a then Conor Murray followed up with a point for the Deise to leave four between the teams at the final whistle.
