Allianz Hurling League Division 3A Final

MAYO 3-19 SLIGO 3-16

A good start proved half the battle for Mayo as they defeated Sligo in today’s Allianz Hurling League Division 3A Final.

Two first half goals in quick succession when Eoin Delaney and Shane Boland hit the back of the net put Mayo 2-4 to 0-4 ahead after 15 minutes.

Sligo rallied and cut the gap to three points, but Mayo finished the half strongly as scores from Boland and Cormac Philips helped them in to a 2-10 to 0-10 half-time lead.

Mayo kept Sligo at arm’s length for much of the third quarter until a Thomas Cawley goal for the Yeats County on 49 minutes brought them back into the conversation.

Man of the Match, Shane Boland, scored his second goal on 57 minutes but Sligo responded with one of their own three minutes later when Conor Hanniffy hit the back of the net.

They rose another green flag in injury-time when Conor Griffin goaled, but it was too little too late and Mayo held on for the win.
