EirGrid U20 Players of the Provinces announced

EirGrid, the operator and developer of Ireland’s electricity grid has announced the EirGrid U20 Players of the Provinces following the conclusion of the EirGrid GAA Football U20 Provincial Championship.

Eamonn Armstrong of Meath, Shane McGinley of Roscommon, Charlie Keating of Kerry, and Gavin Potter of Tyrone have been rewarded for their standout performances in their respective EirGrid U20 Provincial Championships. The worthy recipients of the awards were selected in conjunction with the Gaelic Writers Association.

Eamonn Armstrong of Meath has been named the EirGrid U20 Leinster Player of the Province. The fifth-year student played an instrumental role in Meath’s first U20 Leinster Championship win in 23 years. Armstrong scored the crucial opening goal in the U20 Leinster final, while also playing a key role in the second goal and adding two points in a man-of-the-match display. The wing back also scored the vital goal in Meath’s U20 Leinster semi-final victory over last year’s U20 All Ireland champions, Kildare.

Roscommon wing forward Shane McGinley has deservedly been named the EirGrid U20 Connacht Player of the Province. McGinley has been a key focal point in the Roscommon attack scoring 3-27 throughout the U20 Connacht Championship. McGinley was named the player of the match in the final after scoring 1-6 in the Rossies famous win over Galway.

Kerry’s Charlie Keating has been named the EirGrid U20 Munster Player of the Province after several fine performances helped the Kingdom win a hattrick of EirGrid U20 Munster titles. Keating scored an important goal in Kerry’s win over Clare in round one and has been a rock in defence for Kerry. Keating’s drive and determination on the pitch played a crucial role in guiding Kerry to their first EirGrid U20/U21 All-Ireland final in 16 years.

Tyrone’s Gavin Potter has been named the EirGrid U20 Ulster Player of the Province. Potter’s fine performances throughout the U20 Ulster Championship helped Tyrone secure the top spot in section A. Potter scored a goal in Tyrone’s strong win against Antrim in round 1 and went on to score 3 points in round 2 against Down. He scored the decisive point in Tyrone’s crucial victory over rivals Derry and scored 2 points in round 5 against Monaghan. Potter also played a key part in winning Tyrone’s second EirGrid U20 All-Ireland title in three years defeating Kerry in the final in Portlaoise on Sunday.
