Munster duo Danielle O’Leary and 2023 PwC GPA Senior Camogie Player of the Year Beth Carton are the May winners of the PwC GPA Women’s Player of the Month awards for football and camogie, with Cork midfielder Darragh Fitzgibbon and Donegal’s Peadar Mogan named the PwC GAA/GPA Hurler and Footballer of the Month respectively.

PwC are proud sponsors of the Player of the Month awards across camogie, hurling and football, both men’s and women’s. The May awards recognise the country’s top performers throughout some of the Provincial Finals and the early stages of 2024 All-Ireland championships.

Danielle O’Leary produced a mesmerising display as she kicked ten points against Cork in the Munster final. O’Leary was Kerry’s sole scorer in the first half and continued her scintillating form with six scores in the second. As Kerry secured their first Munster title since 2017, O’Leary was undoubtedly the outstanding player on the pitch.

A resurgent Cork side led by Darragh Fitzgibbon’s monstrous performances from midfield secured two huge victories in May. Fitzgibbon conjured up a man of the match performance in a game for the ages as the Rebels defeated current All-Ireland champions Limerick. Against Tipperary, three points from play in the first half by the Charleville man saw Cork over the line.

Beth Carton put in a stunning performance in the Munster semi-final against Tipperary, with her 1-11 tally nudging her Waterford side over the line. Another sensational 12 point haul from the De La Salle forward wasn’t enough for the Déise to overcome Cork in the final, but Carton’s leadership qualities and sharpshooting have led to her being rewarded with the PwC GPA Women’s Player of the Month Award for camogie.

Peadar Mogan’s electric pace and relentless runs from deep were key in Donegal securing the Ulster Championship and winning an intense contest against Tyrone in the first round of the All-Ireland series. Peadar deservedly received the Player of the Match in the Ulster Final after three fantastic points from wing back.

Enda McDonagh, Managing Partner, PwC Ireland, said: “The provincial finals are steeped in tradition and always an exciting time of year, and this year was no different, thanks to some outstanding performances. On behalf of everyone at PwC, I would like to extend my congratulations to Danielle, Beth, Darragh and Peadar on being named the May Player of the Month winners.”

Uachtarán Chumann Lúthchleas Gael, Jarlath Burns said; “Our championships have been illuminated over the last two months by some superb team and individual displays and the performances of Danielle, Beth, Darragh and Peadar were of the highest quality during May. Congratulations to all four recipients on their awards and thank you to PwC and the GPA for their ongoing partnership which acknowledges the brilliance of these players.”

GPA CEO Tom Parsons said; “Congratulations to Beth, Danielle, Darragh and Peadar on picking up these awards which are a real highlight as the season progresses. The PwC Player of the Month Awards are special as they are voted for by players and peer recognition of individual performances really does mean more.

“On behalf of players, our thanks as always to PwC who are a long-term supporter of elite inter-county athletes. Thank you too to the GAA for your ongoing partnership on these awards.”

The PwC GPA Women’s Player of the Month and PwC GAA/GPA Players of the Month Award winners are voted for by the GPA’s membership.
