Electric Ireland Sigerson Cup Round One

Queens University 1-10 DCU Dóchas Éireann 2-6

TU Dublin 2-8 University of Galway 1-10

Maynooth University 4-11 MTU Cork 2-9

On a cold night throughout the country there was no shortage of Electric Ireland Sigerson Cup drama.

Luke Donnelly's last gasp pointed free earned Queens University a first round 1-10 to 2-6 win over DCU Dóchas Éireann at The Dub.

In a thrilling finish with the teams level, Donnelly edged Queens ahead with a goal.

Mathew Costello replied with a fisted major for DCU to level, but Queens responded.

In the opening period Conor Corbett had netted a goal for DCU, who led 1-2 to 0-2 at the turnaround, but Queens eventually prevailed.

University of Galway, who won the Higher Education Division One League before Christmas, were defeated 2-8 to 1-10 on home turf in Dangan by TU Dublin.

Late on two Cillian Ó Curraoin points edged University of Galway into a 1-10 to 1-8 advantage, but Cian Hanley struck a goal for TU Dublin.

Earlier in the second half Ryan O'Donoghue and Killian McGinnis traded goals, but a gritty TU Dublin, featuring Meath's Jack Flynn, earned an impressive win.

Maynooth University registered a 4-11 to 2-9 victory over MTU Cork.

Eoghan Frayne, Ruairí Kinsella, and Kevin O'Sullivan scored first half goals for Maynooth, who departed 3-6 to 0-3 ahead at the interval.

Keith O'Neill added a fourth Maynooth goal after the restart with Tommy Walsh and Mark Casey raising green flags for MTU Cork.
