Dublin and Monaghan both secured important wins to advance to the semi-finals of the Leinster and Ulster Football Championships last weekend.

At a balmy Nowlan Park on Saturday evening Diarmuid Connolly and Dean Rock were key performers in Dublin's victory over a spirited Laois outfit.

On Sunday Monaghan produced a powerful second half display to shrug off Down's resistance with Kieran Hughes a central figure.

Kieran Hughes bagged a vital 57th minute goal for Monaghan, who were far too classy for Down at Clones.

Hughes was prominent throughout for Monaghan, who led by 0-9 to 0-6 at the interval.

After the restart, though, Hughes' delightful major sealed a convincing victory for a dominant Monaghan outfit.

Dean Rock - Dublin

** **

Only 15 seconds had elapsed when Dean Rock drilled a goal for Dublin against Laois.

Rock remained an influential figure in the game for Dublin converting opportunities in clinical fashion.

A 1-10 haul, inlcuding 1-4 from play, proved just how accurate Rock was for Dublin during the Leinster SFC quarter-final triumph.
