The Galway Football Squad will be going ‘Wild’ this coming weekend to raise funds for MS Ireland and the Tribesmen Supporters Club.

The squad will attempt to cycle all 2,750 kilometres of the Wild Atlantic Way on Saturday December 17th. All funds raised will be distributed between MS Ireland and the Galway Tribesmen Supporters Club.

Instead of taking on the iconic route in the depths of winter there will be a number of high profile locations throughout the county selected where players will jump on static spinning bikes to try and reach a target per cyclist.

Venues will include Supermac’s at The Galway Plaza in Kiltullagh, Eyre Square and Headford Road as well as Joyce’s Supermarkets, Elvery’s, An Púcan Bar, The Eyre Square Shopping Centre, The Corrib Shopping Centre and Taaffes Bar on Shop Street. Bikes will be supplied by The Kingfisher Gym and live updates will be broadcast on Galway Bay FM from the venues to see if the target of 2,750km will be hit.

Donations will be accepted at the venues or online via: www.justgiving.com/fundraising/tribesmengowild

According to Mike Crowe of MS Ireland, all funds raised for the charity will go towards MS Ireland’s Western Service.

“MS Ireland are delighted to have been chosen as the charity partner for this event," said Crowe. "The lads have taken on a gruelling challenge to help raise vital funds to support our services. All monies raised will go to the services provided by our Galway Office.”

All monies raised for Galway GAA will go directly to The Galway Tribesmen Supporters Club who in turn aid the preparations of the Galway Senior Squads for the coming season.

Galway manager, Kevin Walsh, said that his team are looking forward to the event.

"On my behalf of myself and the management team, I'd like to thank Galway people for their support this year. This event on Saturday represents a great opportunity for us to show our commitment to MS Ireland while raising some much-needed funds.

“The GAA has always has a culture of community involvement. The positivity that we are experiencing within the team is something that we hope our supporters will get an understanding of and support these 2 good causes.

“We are looking forward to Galway supporters continued support in 2017 and it would be great to have the stand in Pearse Stadium full of Galway supporters."
