Sean Cavanagh
Tyrone's Sean Cavanagh has come out on top in the public vote for this week's GAA.ie Footballer of the Week.
The Red Hand County's Captain Fantastic gave an inspirational display of leadership as he drove on his team to victory over Donegal in Sunday's Ulster Senior Football Final.
That feat helped him to 42 per cent of the votes cast on the GAA's official Twitter (@officialgaa), Facebook, and Instagram pages and top the poll ahead of Mayo's Diarmuid O'Connor and Galway's Damien Comer.
GAA.ie Footballer of the Week
1: Sean Cavanagh - 6323 (42 per cent)
**2: **Diarmuid O'Connor - 5421 (35 per cent)
**3: **Damien Comer - 3305 (22 per cent)
Sean Cavanagh produced a captain’s display for Tyrone in their Ulster Final victory over Donegal on Sunday.
When the Red Hand County needed leadership in the second-half, he provided more of it anyone else on the pitch.
He scored three excellent second-half points, the last of which was a truly wonderful effort from way out on the right wing that levelled the match as it ticked into injury-time and gave Tyrone the surge of momentum they needed to go on and win the game.
Diarmuid O'Connor, the reigning Young Footballer of the Year, just keeps getting better and better and produced a brilliant performance to inspire Mayo to victory over Kildare in Saturday’s Round 3B All-Ireland SFC Qualifier.
He made his presence felt from the very start as he scored the first point of the game and then landed another two in the opening seven minutes.
He finished with a tally of 1-5 from play to his name, and his fine goal before half-time when he carried the ball for 50 metres before finishing to the back of the net really killed off the Kildare challenge.
Galway had no shortage of heroes in their emphatic Connacht Final replay victory over Roscommon, but Damien Comer nevertheless stood out above ever other player on the field.
Roscommon simply couldn’t cope with his dynamism at centre-forward as he turned their defence inside out time and again with his powerful running, clever passing, and accurate finishing. Over the course of the match four different markers tried and failed to curb his influence.
Comer finished the match with three points from play, and not even a late black card could blemish what was a truly brilliant individual performance.
