The first round of the Allianz Hurling League took place at the weekend and a number of teams put down early season markers.
Waterford’s win over Kilkenny in Nowlan Park was the result of the weekend, but the likes of Cork, Wexford, Tipperary, and Galway will also be pleased with their first hit out.
This week’s nominees for Hurler of the Week are Waterford's Jamie Barron, Cork’s Shane Kingston, and Tipperary’s Aidan McCormack.
The voting process is simple: retweet the image of your chosen player on the GAA's official Twitter account (@officialgaa) or like their image on the GAA's official Facebook and Instagram pages. Voting will close at 10am on Tuesday, February 14 and the winner will be announced on GAA.ie.
Hurler of the Week nominations
Jamie Barron - Waterford
An All-Star in 2016, Jamie Barron started 2017 in the same vein by producing a man of the match performance for Waterford in their victory over Kilkenny at Nowlan Park.
The midfield dynamo hoovered up a huge amount of possession in all areas of the park and more often than not did something very constructive with it.
He showed a great willingness to get forward and test the Kilkenny defence and finished with three well-taken points to his name.
Shane Kingston - Cork
Shane Kingston was superb for Cork in their victory over Clare on Saturday night as the Rebels renaissance moved up another gear.
The 19-year-old is a serious physical specimen as well as a very skilful hurler and he brought a huge amount of energy to their half-forward line.
His first instinct was to attack the Clare defence when he won possession, and by the end of a hard-working display he finished with four fine points to his name. A son of team-manager Kieran Kingston, he looks like a real star in the making.
Aidan McCormack - Tipperary
Handed his first League start by Tipperary manager Michael Ryan on Saturday night against Dublin, Aidan McCormack grabbed the opportunity with both hands with a very clinical performance in the Tipperary full-forward line.
He scored five very classy points from play and also set up team-mate Noel McGrath for another, so it was a very productive evening for the Thurles Sarsfields club-man.
He showed a lot of confidence for someone so inexperienced as he consistently backed himself to take on difficult shots, and if he keeps this up will be difficult to dislodge from the team.
