Connacht Hurling League

New York 1-27 Galway Development 1-16

New York are through to the Connacht Hurling League Final after a very impressive 11-point win over a Galway development side at the University of Galway Connacht GAA Airdome.

David Mangan’s accurate shooting played a big part in New York’s victory, and when he slotted one over the bar on eight minutes he gave his team a lead they never surrendered.

AJ Willis also impressed in the Big Apple attack, and along with Mangan was to the fore as they surged into a 0-15 to 0-8 half-time lead.

Galway scored the first four point of the second-half to threaten a revival, but when Willis then struck for a goal midway through the half he made sure of a famous win for his team who now go on to play Mayo in the Final.

Dioralyte Walsh Cup

Laois 2-18 Offaly 0-18

Dublin 2-31 Westmeath 1-12

There were wins for Dublin and Laois in the Dioralyte Walsh Cup this evening.

A second-half scoring blitz from Dublin saw them power to victory over Westmeath at Parnell Park.

The home team led by just two points after 33 minutes, but were given a great boost before half-time when a Brian Hayes run set up Donal Leavy for their first goal of the match.

Their attack ran riot in the second half with Ronan Hayes, Brian Hayes, and Cian O'Sullivan particularly impressive. It was Ronan who brilliantly set up his namesake Brian on 49 minutes for his team's second-goal which killed off any hope of a Westmeath comeback.

Meanwhile, Laois will be very pleased with their eye-catching six-point victory over Offaly.

There was little between the teams in the first half after which Laois led by 1-8 to 0-10. Their second goal came via a penalty eight minutes into the second-half and gave them a winning momentum they never surrendered.
