The April book choice for the GAA Museum Book Club is Last Man Standing by Christy O’Connor. In this highly praised book O’Connor gains unique access to some of Ireland’s most famous hurling goalkeepers. He asks what makes them tick and why would anyone be mad enough to take up the loneliest position on the pitch? He reveals their drive, triumphs and failures.

On its release in 2005, this book was described as ‘one hell of a sports book’ and it features insights from legendary hurling netminders including Dónal Óg Cusack, Brendan Cummins, Davy Fitzgerald James McGarry, Damien Fitzhenry and many more.

Author Christy O’Connor is a freelance journalist based in Ennis, Co. Clare. He is also a goalkeeper who played in two All-Ireland club hurling finals, and he was a member of the Clare senior hurling panel for four years.

A live online chat with Christy will take place on Wednesday May 5th at 8.30pm and the event is free for all GAA Museum Book Club Members. Find out more and become a member at www.crokepark.ie/bookclub.
