Grúpa ceoil uirlise Chumann Liathróid Láimhe na Garbhchoille réidh le haghaidh Bhabhtaí Ceannais Scór Sinsear na hÉireann
Carlow will be represented in the All Ireland Final of Scór by an extremely talented group of musicians from Garryhill Handball Club. This Banna Ceoil is made up of five young musicians who have been playing music together since their early school days in Borris Vocational School.
Formerly known as ‘Reelig’, they honed their musical skills with Music Generation and although they are all currently third level students based in Dublin, Limerick and Carlow, they meet up every weekend to play together. “We just love playing music”, said James Hosey, one of the group. “We stay in touch during the week and share tunes. We then practice our individual pieces and come together every weekend to work on various arrangements. We play a traditional Irish music with jazz and pop.”
James attributes much of their success to the inspirational teachers they had through Music Generation, particularly Ciarán Somers and Áine Donohue. Other members of the band include Diarmuid O’ Neill, Sonny Cahill, Aisling Joyce and Cillian O’ Rourke. They play a variety of instruments, including flute, guitar, concertina and fiddle, creating a unique sound.
Those attending the Joe McDonagh Cup Hurling game between Carlow and Down in Netwatch Cullen Park on April 19th will be treated to a few lively tunes from the Banna Ceoil before the match.
We wish Cillian, Aisling, Sonny, Diarmuid and James every success as they represent Garryhill Hanball Club, Carlow and Leinster in the All Ireland of Scór, which will take place in Castlebar on April 26th.
