Hurling starter packs now available to clubs

The GAA is delighted to announce the provision of starter packs for clubs who are keen to establish hurling clubs across the Country.

In September the Hurling Development Committee outlined its plans for the development of hurling with a series of programmes and initiatives to be rolled out in the months and years ahead.

The first step of the HDC plans was the appointment of William Maher as the National Head of Hurling with the Tipperary native due to take up his position at the beginning of April.

As per the terms of reference for the HDC, one of the key targets is to work with hurling communities/county committees/provincial councils to seek to create new GAA clubs to cater for hurling in regions with limited representation.

Clubs who have either established hurling in 2024 or wish to do so in 2025 are now eligible to apply for a starter pack consisting of hurleys, helmets, sliotars and additional training equipment.

Through the National Coaching & Games Development Department, those clubs who are successful will work alongside their Counties and Provinces to put in support structures to ensure their will be longevity in the aims for the new clubs.

Expectations

  1. Clubs will offer hurling at nursery level (ages 4-6) throughout the year as a minimum
  2. To host the new GAA nursery workshop within the club
  3. Actively engage with Games Development Staff to support the ongoing development of hurling within your club
  4. Assist Games Development staff in the facilitation of coaching block(s) within your feeder schools.
  5. Commit to engage with the Go Games programme offered in your County in Year 2
