Kerry football selector, Diarmuid Murphy, says Kingdom full-back, Jason Foley, is likely to miss the Munster Championship with the ankle injury he sustained last weekend against Roscommon.
“it’s unlikely he’ll take any part in the Munster Championship this year for us but after that we’d be hopeful enough that he’ll see some action so we’ll see, we’ll see,” said Murphy at the launch of the Munster SFC yesterday.
“It depends on how quickly he recovers after that but unlikely for Munster Championship. It was very worrying at the time because it looked like a very significant injury but it doesn’t look like it’s going to be a season-ender anyway, definitely but we’ll see, we’ll see how he recovers.”
Foley has been one of the best man-markers in the game for a number of years now, and Murphy admits he’ll be a loss for however long he’s sidelined.
“Of course, yeah, yeah, Jason’s done a great job for us, for Kerry in general over the last good few years now and he’s been a settled presence there in the No 3 jersey.
“He’s going to be a big loss of course but, come here, we’ve been working hard on our squad during the League this year and there’s other fellas there who are going to get a chance to step up and play in real competitive games and big games for us in the Munster Championship and maybe onwards as well so that’s why we’ve got our squad and we’ve got to back our squad as best we can.”
