Rob Downey is this week's GAA.ie Hurler of the Week.
Cork’s Rob Downey has been voted GAA.ie Hurler of the Week.
The powerful defender received 4,090 votes on the GAA’s Official Instagram page which put him ahead of Offaly’s Brian Duignan (1,967) and Waterford’s Mark Fitzgerald (1,631).
Rob Downey – Cork
Rob Downey was a colossus for Cork in their Allianz Hurling League Division 1A Final win over Tipperary. He completely locked down the centre of their defence and was also the launch-pad for many of their attacks.
Brian Duignan – Offaly
Waterford’s defence struggled to contain Offaly target-man, Brian Duignan, in the Allianz Hurling League Division 1B Final. He won a huge amount of ball and scored five points from play.
Mark Fitzgerald – Waterford
The Waterford wing-back drove his team forward time and again in the Allianz Hurling League Division 1B Final. He defended tenaciously, scored three points from play, and created a goal for Patrick Curran.
Players of the Week are decided based on votes cast by followers of the Official GAA Instagram page.
