Electric Ireland Munster Minor Hurling Championship
Waterford 1-20 Limerick 0-14
A virtuoso display by Cormac Spain saw Waterford continue their perfect start to the Electric Ireland Munster Minor Hurling Championship with a nine-point victory over Limerick at Cappoquin Logistics Fraher Field.
The Ballygunner prospect ended with 1-13 to his name, including 1-3 from play, taking his two-game tally to 2-22.
Having defeated champions Tipperary on their first day out, the Déise vaulted into top spot of the round-robin standings while Limerick have suffered back-to-back losses. Tipp face Clare on Saturday in Ennis.
Shane Waters, with the first of eight placed balls, and Paul Murphy got Limerick off to a quick start. That two-point lead would be the biggest of the half.
A Spain free equalised by the 10th minute and his first from play pushed his side ahead by the 12th.
The sides were level six times between then and the break, retiring at 0-8 points apiece.
Playing into the wind, Spain edged Waterford back ahead but Cathal Dennehy and a Waters free had Limerick in front after 38 minutes.
The Déise hit back with six of the next seven points, including five for Spain and one from Jamie Shanahan.
Further contributions from Shane Power and Gearóid O’Shea maintained that lead until Spain’s clincher approaching the hour.
Jack Power brilliantly secured possession, Conor Power delivered it inside, O’Shea fed the sliotar wide for Spain, and he buried to the net from an acute angle.
