Tá ríméad ar Choiste na Gaeilge Chumann Lúthchleas Gael go bhfuil roinnt de na peileadóirí agus de na hiománaithe is aitheanta atá sa Chumann sásta a bheith páirteach i bhfeachtas a léireoidh an dlúthbhaint atá ag an eagraíocht leis an nGaeilge agus in iarracht tuilleadh daoine a spreagadh chun pé méid den teanga atá acu a labhairt.

Tá teachtaireachtaí físeáin déanta ag Marc Ó Sé, Neil McGee, Ciarán Kilkenny agus Joe Canning ag léiriú a dtacaíocht don smaoineamh agus chomh sásta agus atá siad an deis a fháil. Tráchtann siad ar an úsáid a bhaineann siad féin as an teanga agus tugann an dúshlán gur linn ar fad an Ghaeilge, ach gur ag an duine aonair atá an rogha í a labhairt.

Idir 30-40 soicind ar fhad atá na míreanna agus idir seo agus deireadh an tséasúir, taispeáinfear iad ar na scáileáin mhóra ag cluichí craoibhe a bheidh ar siúl ar fud na tíre agus freisin i bPáirc an Chrócaigh.Tá póstaeir ar a dtugann na himeorií an teachtaireacht chéanna á gcur ar fáil ag an gCumann do chlubanna agus do scoileanna.

Dúirt Uachtarán Chumann Luthchleas Gael, Liam Ó Néill: "Tá ról tábhachtach ag Cumann Lúthchleas Gael sa tacaíocht a thugtar don teanga sna gníomhaiochtaí éagsúla a bhíonn ar siúl againn agus léiríonn an tionscadal seo go soiléir an ceangal atá idir ár gcluichí agus ár gcultúr.

"Cuireann sé go mór le seasamh na teanga go bhfuil ceathar de na himeoirí is cáiliúla atá againn sásta tacú leis an bhfeachtas seo agus sásta guth a thabhairt do na Gaeilgeoirí ar fad atá san eagraíocht agus dóibh siúd a bhfuil bá acu lenár dteanga dhúchais Tá súil againn go spreagfaidh sin an óige chun í a úsáid inár gcluichí."

Dúirt Cathaoirleach Choiste na Gaeilge, Mícheál Ó Máirtín : "Ceann de na mianta atá againn go spreagfaidh seo iad siúd nach bhfuil acu ach beagán Gaeilge sin a labhairt agus tá an Coiste ag scrudú bealaí eile chun úsáid a bhaint as an teicneolaíocht nua-aimseartha agus as na meáin shóisialta chun an Ghaeilge a chur chun cinn."

Football and Hurling Stars support the GAA's Irish language campaign

The GAA's Coiste na Gaeilge is pleased to confirm that some of the Association's top footballers and hurlers have agreed to participate in a campaign to raise awareness of the close ties between the GAA and the language and to try to encourage more people to speak whatever 'Gaeilge' they have.

Marc Ó Sé, Neil McGee, Ciarán Kilkenny and Joe Canning have all recorded video messages explaining their involvement and their support for the idea. They speak about their own use of the Irish language and how important it is that all of us take ownership of it by using whatever Irish we have.

The recordings are 30/40 seconds in duration and will be shown on the large screens on match days around the country for the rest of the season, most notably at Croke Park.

The Association has also produced posters in PDF format of the same players which will be distributed to clubs and schools across the GAA network. The key message will also appear in GAA Match Programmes.

Uachtarán Chumann Lúthchleas Gael Liam Ó Néill said: "The GAA has an important role to play in supporting the Irish language through our various different activities and this project clearly illustrates the overlap between our games and our culture.

"That four of our excellent ambassadors have lent their support to this campaign to represent Irish speakers throughout the Association and those positively disposed to our native tongue, will assist in enhancing the profile of Irish as an everyday medium and hopefully encourage young people to engage with it if possible through the medium of our games."

The Cathaoirleach of Coiste na Gaeilge Micheál Ó Mairtín added that he hoped that people who had a limited amount of Irish would be encouraged to speak it and said that his committee were also examining ways in which Cumann Lúthchleas Gael could make further use of all available technology and social media to promote the language.
