Táin Óg clubs receive €80k equipment boost

In recent days, clubs who completed all their games in the Tain Óg and Cúchulainn competitions have collected their equipment packs as a reward for their commitment and participation in the two Hurling competitions in 2023.

More than 430 games were played in year across both the Tain Óg and the Cúchulainn which is a great success. Almost 70 clubs from 15 different counties have been given equipment packs consisting of hurls, helmets and sliotars as a consequence of completing their games in 2023 which will further help the development of Hurling in their club and county.

With the help of the competition coordinators and county staff, more than 575 helmets, 4200 sliotars and 385 hurls have been distributed in a package worth €80,000 to clubs for their 2023 involvement.

The 2024 Táin Óg Competitions will begin on Saturday March 30 with the U16’s in action over the course of six weeks followed by competitions at U14, U18 and the adult CúChulainn League

GAA Director of Coaching and Games Development Shane Flanagan paid tribute to all involved in the Táin Óg and CúChulainn competitions. “These competitions provide a structured games programme for many clubs within developing hurling counties.

"The successful cross county nature of these competitions can provide a roadmap for the future expansion of fixtures and competitions as the variety of opposition provided in the Táin Óg and CúChulainn leagues makes them attractive for players and coaches.

"While they are competitive competitions, the developmental focus remains the central theme for all involved. Clubs develop good relationships and understand the importance of supporting each other to develop the game of hurling in their areas”.
