Caught in the crush leaving Croke Park, he died of heart failure aged 26.
He said goodbye to his brother as he left for Croke Park around 2.30pm
James and John Teehan from Gurteen near Ballingarry, Co Tipperary, lived and worked together in their pub on Green Street in the heart of Dublin’s inner city. John had said goodbye to James as he left for Croke Park around 2.30pm.
When the firing started James made for the exit in the northeastern corner of the ground between the modern-day Cusack Stand and Hill 60 but was caught in the crush.
He died of heart failure, aged 26. The following week he was returned home to Tipperary and buried at Ballinalacken cemetery near the village of New Birmingham.
