Jerome - Section 1
A few minutes before the game between Dublin and Tipperary began, 10-year-old Jerome O’Leary was lifted onto the wall that ran along the back of Croke Park behind the goals at the canal end of the ground.
Jerome - Section 2
When the first shots rang out from the canal bridge to his left, O’Leary was shot in the head and killed.
Jerome - Section 3
When the shooting was at its worst, Major George Dudley, the officer in charge of the Black and Tans at Croke Park that day, directed a spectator to take Jerome’s body away. The spectator called to an ambulance as it charged past, but it couldn’t stop.
Jerome - Section 4
Jerome lay in the Mater hospital that night, his body unclaimed, and was buried in Glasnevin cemetery, the youngest victim of the massacre at Croke Park.
