The 2016 GAA Football All-Ireland series was launched at the GAA National Games Development Centre in Abbotstown where Diarmuid Connolly (Dublin), Peter Crowley (Kerry), Shane Walsh (Galway) and Tiernan McCann (Tyrone) represented this year’s four provincial champions.
Qualifier games over the next two weekends will determine the quarter-final pairings as the race for the Sam Maguire Cup heats up.
Uachtarán Chumann Lúthchleas Gael Aogán Ó Fearghail, in the company of championship sponsors AIB, Eir and SuperValu, marked the onset of the All-Ireland series in Dublin.
He said: “I want to thank our Provincial Councils for the competitions they have run and for producing four magnificent champions in Dublin, Tyrone, Kerry and Galway.
“As we embark upon the exciting concluding stages of the All-Ireland series and the battle for Sam Maguire, we can safely say that all 12 teams left standing are very much here on merit.
“Diarmuid, Shane, Peter and Tiernan are excellent representatives of the sort of outstanding talent that exits within our games right now and we can all look forward to the titanic struggle that will rage in the coming weeks before our 2016 champions are crowned on the third Sunday in September.”
Football followers can avail of special Football Feast packages which offer unrivalled value to supporters.
Club and Group pass will also be available for the quarter-finals and semi-finals - (application from club secretaries) and juveniles can attend these games for only €5.
