Kerry captain Bryan Sheehan insists he hasn't trained as a goalkeeper ahead of the All-Ireland SFC Semi-Final against Dublin on August 28
Rumours have been rife in the Kingdom that Sheehan would be parachuted into the position for the match because of his kick-passing and dead-ball prowess.
The fact that he is a former Kerry minor goalkeeper gave the rumour some credence, but Sheehan revealed yesterday he's still training as an outfield player with the Kerry panel.
"No I haven't (trained in goal). But, look, if Eamonn turns around and says to me in the morning...he hasn't said a word to me yet, I don't know where it has come out of.
"I haven't trained there. If he wants to put me in goal he hasn't told me yet. He has a couple of days to tell me, but as of now I haven't trained in goal."
Kerry manager Eamonn Fitzmaurice was also asked at Kerry's pre-All-Ireland press event last night about whether or not Sheehan was being considered as a goalkeeper.
He refused to deny the rumour outright, but seemed more amused than anything else that it was doing the rounds.
"The team isn’t picked yet," he said. "We’re trying a few things. But there’s no team picked.
“It’s Kerry and it’s this time of the year so there’s always going to be these stories out there.
“Particularly when the gates (of Fitzgerald Stadium) are closed, there’s going to be stuff out there. Some of it true, some of it not.
“So it’s not something we can control. So we leave it off.”
Fitzmaurice also revealed last night that Colm Cooper has made a full recovery from the shoulder injury he sustained in the Munster Final and is fit to play against Dublin if selected.
