It was a busy weekend in the football championship with the Munster Final, two Ulster Semi-Final replays, and two All-Ireland Qualifiers being played.

Kerry had a comfortable 10 point victory over Tipperary in the Munster Final, Donegal edged out Monaghan and Tyrone were too strong Cavan in the Ulster Semi-Final replays, while Sligo beat Leitrim and Laois defeated Armagh in the Qualifiers.

The best football was definitely produced by those two Ulster semi-finals. Peter Harte was the main man for Tyrone as they hit a whopping 5-18 against Cavan, while Martin O'Reilly inspired Donegal to a hard-fought one-point win over Monaghan.

That duo make the short-list for this week's Footballer of the Week nominations, and they are joined there by Kerry's Paul Geaney who was outstanding in their victory over Tipperary.

Football Player of the Week Nominations

Peter Harte - Tyrone

Tyrone's ginger genius was absolutely immense in their Ulster Semi-Final replay victory over Cavan. He scored 2-3 from play, and the first-half goals that came within a minute of one another were game-changers.

The first of them was as spectacular effort as he smashed the ball to the roof of the net in style, and the second was a poacher's effort as he followed up a Tiernan McCann's blocked shot to bundle home from close range.

It's typical of Harte to score two very different goals, because he's such an all-rounder. He provided a keen cutting edge to the Tyrone attack on Sunday, but he also defended superbly and launched numerous counter-attacks after winning the ball deep in his own half.

Paul Geaney - Kerry

Tipperary battled bravely in the Munster Final against Kerry, but the simply couldn't handle the ball-winning ability and finishing power of the Kingdom's full-forward, Paul Geaney.

He finished with a final tally of 2-3 from play, and all of his scores had the stamp of real class. He settled Kerry down with the first two points of the match, but it was the goals that really killed the Tipperary challenge.

For both of them Geaney backed himself to run straight at the Tipp defence and on twice he finished emphatically. The Dingle man looks physically stronger and more confident than ever before, and could have a big say in the destination of the Sam Maguire Cup this year.

Martin O'Reilly - Donegal

Martin O'Reilly produced his best performance yet in the Donegal jersey in their Ulster Semi-Final replay victory over Monaghan.

He scored three fine points from play, but his performance was about much more than what he registered on the score-board.

Named at corner-forward, he roved all over the field to great effect and got on a huge amount of ball. His ability to pick up the ball in deep positions, carry it forward effectively, and then pick out a judicious pass meant he was the engine that constantly drove Donegal forward.
