Monaghan succumbed to a typically late charge from Dublin in their epic Allianz Football League Division 1 match on Sunday, but the abiding memory of the game remained Jack McCarron’s sublime performance.
We’re not used to seeing opposition forwards toying with the Dublin defence, but that’s exactly what he did as he scored 1-5 from play.
There was a touch of class about all of the scores too as he kicked points from a variety of distances and angles and finished his goal clinically after wrong-footing Stephen Cluxton with a lovely body-swerve.
The result of the weekend was arguably Tipperary’s smash and grab raid away to Armagh that saw them come from behind to snatch a one-point win and gain promotion to Division Two of the Allianz Football League.
All-Star Michael Quinlivan was the main man for the Premier County, scoring a remarkable 3-1 from play as he tore the Armagh defence to tatters.
He saved the best until last by drilling the match-winning goal to the corner of the net deep into injury time to hand Tipperary a hugely important victory in the most dramatic way possible.
**Donnchadh Walsh **is one of the hardest working forwards in the game, but he reminded us on Sunday that there’s a lot more to his game than just energy and ball-winning ability.
His clinical finishing was the highlight of the match as Kerry put Tyrone to the sword with surprising ease.
Walsh finished the game with six points from play to his name in what must go down as one of his best ever performances in the green and gold.
