Kieran Donaghy named in Irish basketball squad

Kerry footballer Kieran Donaghy has been selected for the Irish international basketball squad by newly appointed head coach Pete Strickland.

Donaghy returned to play senior basketball for Garvey’s Tralee Warriors last year and has played a pivotal role in the team’s rise to third place in the Super League.

He has yet to play for Kerry in this year’s Allianz League but has been training with the team once a week and is expected to feature before the end of the campaign.

His call-up to the Irish international team is unlikely to affect his involvement with Kerry. The International basketballers do not play a competitive match this year and will instead just come together for a handful of training camps, the first of which is in April.
