Paddy Carr has been appointed as the new Donegal senior football team manager with Aidan O'Rourke to work as head coach.

On Monday evening the Donegal GAA county committee ratified Carr for an initial two year term, with a review after the first campaign.

A former Donegal footballer, Carr has previously managed Louth at inter-county level.

Carr has been involved with club teams including Summerhill, Tír Chonaill Gaels, Kilmacud Crokes, Burren, St Brigid's (Roscommon), and Ballymun Kickhams.

The highly regarded O'Rourke, who works as performance sport manager at Queens University Belfast, won an All-Ireland title with Armagh in 2002.

O'Rourke has subsequently coached at inter-county level with Kildare, Down, and Armagh, while also managing Louth in 2013 and 2014.
