Saturday May 18

Ulster Senior Football Championship Quarter-Final

Cavan v Monaghan, Kingspan Breffni, 7pm

Monaghan have been a solid and resourceful outfit under Malachy O'Rourke.

Reaching the past seven Ulster semi-finals confirms Monaghan's consistency in a keenly contested province, but neighbours Cavan can be awkward opponents.

In 2013, 2015, and 2017 Monaghan only prevailed by one, one, and three points so it should be similarly tight this weekend.

Mickey Graham's Cavan did suffer relegation from Division One of the Allianz Football League, but they will believe that the Monaghan scalp can be taken.

Under O'Rourke Monaghan have proven themselves to be a resilient outfit and character will need to be demonstrated as injuries have bothered them in recent months.

CAVAN: Raymond Galligan; Jason McLoughlin, Padraig Faulkner, Conor Moynagh; Gerard Smith, Killian Clarke, Conor Rehill; Conor Brady, Gearoid McKiernan; Martin Reilly, Dara McVeety, Niall Murray; Oisin Kiernan, Thomas Galligan, Conor Madden.

Connacht Senior Football Championship Semi-Final

Galway v Sligo, Markievicz Park, 3.30pm

At the start of this decade Sligo were enjoying a decent record against Galway, who demolished the Yeats County 4-24 to 1-12 last year.

That was a demoralising day for Sligo, who lost all seven Allianz Football League Division Three matches this spring.

Paul Taylor hasn't been helped by the unavailability and retirements of several key players so has been forced to bring through young footballers.

Galway just did enough to overcome London at Ruislip, but they have made significant strides under Kevin Walsh.

Galway's Ian Burke netted a goal against Sligo in the 2018 Connacht Senior Football Championship at Pearse Stadium.

Reaching a first All Ireland SFC semi-final since 2001 last year was an achievement and returning to the latter stages of the Championship is the ambition.

While Galway's injury list remains lengthy Walsh will be hoping that the maroon and white outfit can continue to make progress.

SLIGO: Eamonn Kilgannon; Michael Gordon, Peter Laffey, Keelan Cawley; Gerard O’Kelly Lynch, Darragh Cummins, Paul McNamara; Adrian McIntyre, Paul Kilcoyne; Mikey Gordon, Sean Carrabine, Nathan Mullen; Paddy O’Connor, Adrian Marren, Niall Murphy.

GALWAY: Bernard Power; Eoghan Kerin, Sean Andy Ó Ceallaigh, Liam Silke; Kieran Molloy, Gareth Bradshaw, John Daly; Thomas Flynn, Fiontán Ó Curraoin; Shane Walsh, Michael Daly, Johnny Heaney; Antaine Ó Laoí, Ian Burke, Danny Cummins

Ulster Senior Football Championship Quarter-Final

Down v Armagh, Pairc Esler, 4pm

During the Kieran McGeeney era Armagh's most effective displays have been reserved for the All Ireland qualifiers.

Delivering in Ulster, though, is the current ambition so Armagh will want to prove that they can make progress in the province.

Down were disappointed not to be promoted from Division Three of the Allianz Football League, but Paddy Tally afforded several emerging players opportunities to shine.

Jamie Clarke's return to Armagh colours during the spring was a boost and the Orchard County are anxious to record a first victory in Ulster since 2014.

Donegal, Cavan, Down, and Fermanagh have all beaten Armagh in the intervening years.

ARMAGH: Blaine Hughes; Patrick Burns, Aaron McKay, Paul Hughes; Ryan Kennedy, Brendan Donaghy, Aidan Forker; Charlie Vernon, Jarlath Og Burns; Aidan Nugent, Ethan Rafferty, Jemar Hall; Rory Grugan, Rian O’Neill, Jamie Clarke.
