Shane Walsh looks like he’s really embraced the responsibility of captaining the Galway footballers in 2020.
Playing in a new full-forward role, he was outstanding in Saturday’s FBD Connacht SFL Final against Roscommon.
He finished with a personal tally of 1-8 and was deadly accurate both from play and placed balls.
Towering midfielder Ronan Steede was Corofin’s Man of the Match as they won a historic third AIB All-Ireland SFC title in a row on Sunday by beating Kilcoo after extra-time.
Steede finished with three points from play and all of them were peaches. It was fitting that it was his point at the start of extra-time that lit the fuse for Corofin’s explosive play in that period.
He wasn’t just a finisher, either. His ability to dominate the skies in the middle third of the field and win hard-fought ball was crucial on the day too.
Mickey Quinn played a captain’s part for Longford as they won their third ever O’Byrne Cup and first in 20 years by beating Offaly in Saturday’s Final.
His brilliant goal after 16 minutes gave Longford an impetus they badly needed at that time and he finished with a personal tally of 1-1.
He then showed his adaptability in the closing stages of the match by switching from an attacking role to a sweeping one to help steer his team to victory.
