The GAA looks forward to welcoming a large crowd to Croke Park on Sunday for the 2022 GAA Hurling All-Ireland final between Limerick and Kilkenny and once again advises supporters to arrive early.
With no minor game and Clonliffe College no longer available for car parking, supporters are asked to plan their journey and arrive early to the stadium where turnstiles will be open from the earlier time of 1pm.
The Gardai have advised that severe parking restrictions will be in place.
Pre-match musical entertainment will be provided by Hermitage Green and Ronan Tynan and the Artane School of Music, and the jubilee teams of Clare (1995 & 1997) and Wexford (1996) will be introduced to the crowd in the build-up to the game.
As the country is again mindful of the plight of Ukrainian refugees who have fled to Ireland, there will be an acknowledgment of the work being done to support these refugees by clubs and communities.
The Liam MacCarthy Cup will be brought onto the field and placed on its plinth by Ukrainian children.
The Association will also mark the 175 th anniversary of the birth of Michael Cusack who was a driving force behind the formation of the GAA in 1884.
Amhrán na bhFiann will be performed by Artane and it will be signed by Senan Dunne and Caroline O’Leary.
The throw-in for the final will be at 3.30pm and it will be refereed by Colm Lyons from Nemo Rangers in what will be the Cork official’s first senior final.
The All-Ireland senior hurling championship was first staged in 1887. Limerick were the first-ever winners of the MacCarthy Cup when claiming the 1921 crown, and the defending champions are seeking their first ever senior three in a row. Kilkenny are seeking a first All-Ireland senior title since 2015. The last time they were without Liam MacCarthy for this long was between their victories of 1983 and 1992.
Patrons are also advised to be aware of the current weather forecast for the weekend, which is for extremely warm conditions. The teams will have an additional water carrier in operation on match day.
After the impact of Covid-19 in recent years, Sunday’s attendance will be the largest at an All-Ireland senior final since 2019 after a Covid capacity of 40,000 was in place last season.
As ever, supporters are advised to source tickets from official sources only.
Those intending to travel are urged to consider the following:
• Use public transport at ALL times were possible and active travel
• Clonliffe College is no longer available
