Former Waterford selector Fintan O'Connor has been appointed Kerry's new senior hurling manager.

O'Connor succeeds Ciaran Carey on an initial two-year deal with the option of a third year and will announce his backroom team at a later date.

As well as serving as a selector with Waterford manager Derek McGrath, O'Connor has also coached the Waterford IT team for the past three years and helped them to their 2014 Fitzgibbon Cup success.

He also managed the Cappoquin hurling club to the Munster intermediate title the same year, and managed Fourmilewater Hurling club in Waterford from 2009 to 2013.
