Vastly experienced at dealing with big Munster Championship days Padraic Maher was an influential figure for Tipperary in his home town.
Such a good reader of the game Maher kept putting Tipperary on the front foot even when Limerick were threatening to launch a comeback.
Maher was also able to nail a cute point for Tipperary, who now face Waterford in an intriguing provincial decider next month.
Cathal Barrett's importance to the Tipperary cause shouldn't be underestimated with Sunday's success offering further evidence of his ability.
Barrett was prominent for Michael Ryan's team, who were set up impressively in defence.
The 22 year old, in his third Championship campaign, made several critical clearances during the match as Tipperary eked out a valuable victory.
Having missed the Allianz Hurling League Padraig Mannion has made a welcome return to action for Galway.
In O'Moore Park Mannion's sweet striking was a feature of the game played in dreadful weather conditions.
Mannion, now operating at wing back, decorated a fine performance with two delightful long range points when the Tribesmen took charge after half-time.
