** **

1: Fergal Rafter (Monaghan) - 484 votes (37%)

2: Denis Murphy (Carlow) - 476 votes (36%)

3: Connor O'Prey (Down) - 331 votes (27%)

One of the standout results from the weekend was Monaghan’s triumph over Donegal in the Nicky Rackard Cup.

During the past few years Monaghan have suffered some cruel losses against Donegal, but Monaghan, prompted by Fergal Rafter, refused to be denied on this occasion.

Rafter took on the free taking duties in splendid fashion rifling over 10 points for a determined Monaghan outfit.

Denis Murphy’s excellent free-taking ensured Carlow secured a convincing win over a depleted Kildare outfit at Newbridge.

Murphy impressed throughout for Colm Bonnar’s developing team, nailing 10 vital points for Carlow, who advanced to the Semi-Final.

It was tight enough early on, but Murphy was prominent during one important burst from Carlow before the break. That is when the main damage was done with Murphy influential for the victors.

Down left Pairc Na hEireann in Birmingham on Sunday afternoon feeling good about themselves following an excellent victory.

It was an awkward assignment for Down with London fancied to make an impact, but Connor O’Prey produced a dynamic display.

O’Prey finished the match with a 0-6 haul including three crucial points from play for Down, who were delighted to eke out a win.
