Former Dublin footballer and County Board Chairman Denis Mahony passed away on Monday.

Former Dublin GAA County Board Chairman Denis 'Danno' Mahony has passed away, aged 88.

A hugely respected footballer Mahony became the youngest ever Chairman of the Dublin County Board.

That was following a fine inter-county career with Dublin where Mahony starred during the 1940s and 1950s.

An All Ireland minor winner with Dublin in 1945 Mahony also earned two National League medals.

Mahony captained Dublin in the 1955 All Ireland Final against Kerry on September 25 at Croke Park.

The Kingdom prevailed on a 0-12 to 1-6 scoreline in front of 87, 102 spectators.

With St Vincent's Mahony also enjoyed a richly successful playing career.

Mahony won eight Dublin SFC titles eventually becoming President of St Vincent's.
