Kilkenny's Paul Murphy has retired from inter-county hurling.

The Danesfort clubman won four All-Ireland SHC medals, four Leinster SHC medals, three NHL medals as well three All-Stars.

In a statement issued by Murphy on Twitter he thanked his teammates, management team, the county board, his family and friends and his sponsors. He gave a special thanks, also, to the Defence Forces, to the Kilkenny supporters for their passion and spirit over the years and to his club Danesfort.

‘’The time has come to announce my retirement from the Kilkenny Senior Hurling Team. For as long as I can remember it has been my dream to hurl for Kilkenny and I am proud to say I lived the dream.’’

‘’Thanks to all my teammates down through the years and the journey you brought me on. It’s a privilege to have hurled not only with but against the some of the greatest players to ever play the game, a memory which I will always cherish. I would also like to thank the management teams that have given me the opportunities over the years and the county board and supporters club for all your hard work and dedication to Kilkenny GAA.’’

‘’Finally, to the Kilkenny supporters, your passion and spirit is, and always has been, incredible. It has been the greatest joy to represent you down through the years.’’

Tá Paul ag súil go mór le go leor blianta eile a chaitheamh ag imirt lena chlub, CLG Dún Feart, amach anseo.
