Video: Special day for Coláiste Ghobnatan
Here's a special report on a special team - Coláiste Ghobnatan from West Cork who won the Masita GAA All Ireland Post-Primary Schools Senior C Football Final on Saturday April 5.
Coláiste Ghobnatan, Baile Mhic Íre won the Dr Eamonn O'Sullivan Cup Final, defeating Louth's Ardee CS at O'Moore Park, Portlaoise.
It was a first final at this level for the Cork side whose defenders were the corner stone of their team. They enjoyed a historic 1-12 to 2-6 win over their Wee County opponents even if Cork goalkeeper Gearóid Ó Luasa conceded only his second and third goals of the season in this decider.
The Cork school led at the break by five points after Ryan Rooney's goal for Ardee had appeared to have given them the edge. Louth U21 forward, the ever-dangerous Ryan Burns reduced the deficit with 1-2 in no time at all but in the end Coláiste Ghobnatan hung on to celebrate their first success at this level.
Coláiste Ghobnatan captain Tomas Hallissey says their former team-mate Shane Murphy, who tragically lost his life 15 months ago, has been with them in spirit all year, while manager Mickey Ned Sullivan praised his team for their dignity in victory.
