Dan McCartan
Dan McCartan talks about his involvement in the GAA over the years from playing with his local club to being heavily involved with the administrative side of the Association. He recalls growing up in Co. Down and the prominence of Gaelic games in his locality. He talks about the relationship between the two religious communities in Down and how All-Ireland success served to bring the communities together. He describes his time in St Coleman’s College where GAA was very important. Dan discusses becoming involved in administration for his local club in the 1970s and plots his journey from working at club level to working on the Central Council where he stayed for 28 years. During his time there he served on various committees and was present during a time of major change and development for the GAA including the lifting of the ban on foreign games and the expansion of Croke Park. Dan highlights the importance of the GAA in communities around the country and the work clubs do for their localities.
